Reopening and repositioning a post-COVID venue into a thriving local destination.

Rebuilding operations and identity after prolonged COVID disruption.
Following extended COVID closures, Abbots Yard faced the challenge many hospitality venues encountered — lost momentum, outdated systems, inconsistent staffing and supplier fatigue. Re-establishing the venue required more than reopening doors. It required operational reset, commercial clarity and renewed market relevance. Leading operations, we delivered a full reopening strategy anchored by a high-impact AFL Grand Final event that returned the venue to a full house and repositioned it as a local destination. Marketing for the relaunch was coordinated alongside the directors and Michael Muska to rebuild awareness and community engagement. Behind the scenes, systems were rebuilt from the ground up. Deputy was implemented to modernise payroll and workforce management. IT infrastructure was overhauled. Management reporting frameworks were introduced to improve financial oversight and accountability. A completely new crew base was recruited, trained and onboarded through structured training programs, policies and operational procedures. Legacy stock was cleared and underperforming suppliers were phased out. A refreshed liquor range was introduced to better align with patron expectations, while new food offerings were rolled out to strengthen commercial viability. The weekend public bar was relaunched and live music programming reinstated, supported by collaborative weekly events with Breakfast Club, Organic Audio, Waves and local community groups.
